Volunteer Assignments

Each participating team must supply Event Support Volunteers in order to assist with the logistics and operation of the Science Olympiad. These volunteers must be adults selected by the school who will represent the school in completing the assigned responsibilities. The highest standards of honesty, courtesy, and appropriate behavior is expected.

The volunteer assignments are made in advance and posted to the website. It is the responsibility of the coach to insure that the volunteers representing the school know what their assignment is, where the room(s) or event venue(s) are located, and what time the assignment takes place.

Volunteer responsibilities vary from assignment to assignment. Responsibilities may include checking students at the door for wristbands, assisting with proctoring a test, watching at the door to be sure no one enters, setting up materials, cleaning up, running an errand during the event, etc. The event supervisor determines the responsibilities of the volunteers and your cooperation is greatly appreciated. More than one school may be assigned to the same event.

Schools are asked to recruit three volunteers to serve during the Science Olympiad. Please report to the Event Supervisor at the event location fifteen minutes before the event begins. Some events require more volunteers than others. As directed by the Event Supervisor, you should be able to divide up your assignment between several volunteers. You may be assigned to an event that lasts six or seven hours. By dividing this time between three volunteers, you will be able to make the task reasonable. If your assignment is for a shorter length of time, please have at least two volunteers ready to help. You should plan to have at least one adult volunteer at the event at all times during the assignment. Please make a name badge for each volunteer that includes their name and the school they represent.

Event support volunteers do not need to check in at the registration table. However, please have each of the event support volunteers sign the Code of Conduct form and turn those forms in with your registration materials when you check in the day of the Science Olympiad tournament. The Code of Conduct form can be downloaded and printed from the Los Angeles Regional Science Olympiad website.

Thank you for your support and service!
